About Us

Ringwood Psychology, in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, is a private counselling clinic committed to providing professional research-based psychology and counselling services, in a caring and confidential environment.   Our psychologists, therapists and sexologists are fully qualified members of the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and registered Medicare and Private Health Fund providers.

The aim of Ringwood Psychology is to attain a comprehensive and empathic understanding of our clients’ situations, so that we may assist individuals and couples to understand the origins of their behaviours and thought patterns, and how to implement change to achieve their therapy and life goals.

Ringwood Psychology provides treatment for anxiety (panic attacks, social anxiety and low social confidence, phobias), depression, addiction (alcohol, drugs, Internet), anger management, relationship counselling, sex therapy (male and female sexual dysfunction etc), trauma and abuse treatment.

Ringwood Psychology is committed to the belief that everyone has the capacity to make positive change and lead happy fulfilled lives – it sometimes just takes a little guidance, understanding and support.

Vikki Prior

Vikki Prior (Principal Psychologist)

Vikki Prior is the Founder and Principal Psychologist at Ringwood Psychology.  She is a nationally accredited Psychologist and Sexologist, and is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).  Vikki was on the Executive Committee and former Secretary of the Australian Society of Sexuality Educators, Researchers and Therapists (ASSERT), and is a current member of The Society of Australian Sexologists (SAS).  She has lectured for The Medical Register of Australia, at Monash Medical Centre and Melbourne University.  Vikki is committed to progressing the community’s understanding of mental and sexual health and regularly presents at national conferences and workshops.

Vikki’s counselling field requires training in a range of treatment techniques.  Her most predominant therapies are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, Psychoanalysis and Psychodynamic Therapies, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing.  Vikki’s ongoing professional goal is to strive for empathic understanding of her clients and their life experiences.  She believes that being a good psychologist requires passion, developed insight and a genuine love of people.

Vikki focuses on the treatment of addictions and compulsive behaviours, such as Internet Pornography, Chat Rooms, sex workers, fantasies and fetishes, as well as alcohol and drug misuse.  Due to the negative impact these behaviours can have on relationships, Vikki is also trained in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions (male and female), relationship and intimacy counseling, and anger management.  She assists individuals to understand and control their behaviours, and works with couples to restore relationships damaged by betrayal and broken trust.

Vikki is also trained in emotional regulation techniques required for working with Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse. This area is a passion for Vikki. She is honoured to sit supportively with clients and guide them to unburden themselves with secrets they have kept silent, often for many years.

She is a much appreciated member of our team and was somewhat ‘pursued’, knowing she was a perfect fit for our team and for our clients. She is guided by a clients’ individual strengths and needs, whilst respecting their values, resources, and capacity for choice.
